Welcome (and the #1 reason beginner fish die)

Most beginner fish don't die from bad luck — they die from a single invisible step that gets skipped, and from rushing. The most important sentence in this whole course is this: you're not keeping fish, you're keeping water. Get the water right and the fish mostly take care of themselves. Get it wrong and even the hardiest fish won't make it.

Here's the trap nearly every beginner falls into: they buy a tank and fish on the same day, set everything up that afternoon, and add the fish that night. Within a week or two, the fish start dying — and they blame the store, the fish, or themselves. The real cause is almost always that the tank wasn't *ready* yet (you'll learn exactly what "ready" means in a couple of sections).

So the first rule is simply: slow down. Do not buy fish on day one. This course will walk you through doing it in the right order so your first fish are also your first survivors.
