Using the Help Center

The Help Center has guides for everything on Underground Aquarium, from posting your first ad to claiming your shop. Every answer has its own heading, so search can take you straight to it.

How do I open the Help Center?

Go to /help. You can get there from:

  • More in the top menu, then Help Center (on a computer)
  • your profile menu, then Help Center (on a computer, signed in)
  • the menu button, then Help Center (on a phone)
  • Help Center in the footer of every page, under Community

How do I search for an answer?

  1. Click the search box at the top of the Help Center. It shows the example "mark as sold" before you type. On a guide page it says "Search help…".
  2. Type a few words or a question, like "reset password" or "how do I renew my ad".
  3. Results appear instantly under the box once you've typed at least two characters. Each result shows the answer's heading, the guide it's from and a short preview, with your words highlighted.
  4. Click a result, or press Enter to open the highlighted one.

You land right on that answer inside its guide. Up to 12 results show at a time, best matches first.

Can I type a whole question?

Yes. Search ignores filler words like "how", "do", "I", "my" and "the", and matches simple word endings, so "listings" finds "listing" and "posted" finds "post". Answers that contain all of your words come first. If none do, you'll see answers that match most of them.

If nothing matches, the box says "No help articles match" your search, and suggests trying different words, searching the whole site, browsing the topics or emailing support@undergroundaquarium.com.

What if I spell something wrong?

Search fixes most typos for you. If no answer contains every word you typed, it checks each word against the words the help guides actually use and swaps in the closest one: 1 mistake allowed in words of 4 or 5 letters, 2 in longer words. Swapping two letters in "claim" or leaving an "s" out of "password" still finds the right answer. When that happens, the top of the results says Showing results for the fixed words.

Common shorthand works too: "pic" or "foto" for photo, "msg" or "dm" for message, "pw" for password. Words of 3 letters or fewer, and words with numbers in them, are never changed.

Can I search more than help answers?

Yes. Tap the magnifying glass at the top of any page (or press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K) to open the search pop-out for the whole site: help answers, fish species and care guides, classifieds, fish stores, forums, breeding guides, events, the glossary and courses at once. See Searching the whole site.

Are there keyboard shortcuts?

Yes, on the Help Center and every help guide:

  • Press / (forward slash) to jump to the help search box from anywhere on the page.
  • Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) to open the search pop-out for the whole site instead.
  • Use the up and down arrow keys to move through results.
  • Press Enter to open the highlighted result.
  • Press Escape to clear the search and leave the box.

The / shortcut doesn't fire while you're typing in another box. A small "/" hint shows at the right edge of the search box on larger screens. To clear what you typed with the mouse, click the X in the box.

Under the search box on the Help Center's main page is a row of quick links to the most asked questions: Post a free ad, Mark as sold, Contact a seller, Claim my store, Join the Society and Reset password. Each one opens the exact answer.

How are the guides organized?

Below the search, guides are grouped by category, such as Getting started, Classifieds, The Society, Tools & learning, Fish stores, Account & safety and Help. Each guide card shows its title, a one line summary and how many answers it contains. Click a card to open the guide.

The top of the Help Center also shows how many answers and guides there are in total.

How do I find my way around a guide?

Each guide shows its category and title at the top, then its answers.

  • In this article lists every answer in the guide. Click one to jump to it. On a computer it stays in a column on the right as you scroll. On a phone it appears as a box at the top of the guide (for guides with three or more answers).
  • More in (category) at the bottom lists the other guides in the same category.
  • Help Center at the top left takes you back to the main page.
  • A search box at the top right lets you search again without going back.

Click any answer's heading (the bold question). The address in your browser changes to point at that exact answer. Copy it and send it to someone, and it opens right at that answer. Links from search results work the same way.

What if I can't find my answer?

Every page of the Help Center ends with a Still stuck? box: "Email us with the page you were on and what happened. A real person reads every message." Click Email support to write to support@undergroundaquarium.com. See Contacting support for what to include.

Do I need an account to use the Help Center?

No. The Help Center is open to everyone, signed in or not.

Common problems

Nothing happens when I type in the search box. Results only appear after two or more characters. If still nothing shows, try other words, or browse the guides by category below the search.

The results disappeared. They hide when you click outside the search box or press Escape. Click back in the box to see them again, or retype your search.

Pressing / doesn't jump to search. It won't work while you're typing in another box, and it only works on Help Center pages. Click on an empty part of the page first, or just click in the search box.

The link I was sent opens the guide but not the right answer. The answer's heading may have been reworded since the link was made. Use In this article or search to find it.

Is there a feedback button to tell you a guide is wrong? No. Email support@undergroundaquarium.com with the guide's link and what's wrong.
