Lakes Nicaragua and Managua, Costa Rica and Nicaragua

Grows to about 10 inches, so give 75 gallons or more. Calmer than many Central Americans but territorial when breeding. It digs pits to spawn and will uproot plants. Prefers hard, alkaline water and robust tankmates.
