Confirming your email
When you create an account with an email address and password, we send a confirmation link to make sure the address is really yours. Your account is ready once you click it. Accounts created with Google skip this step.
Why do I need to confirm my email?
Confirming proves you own the address. It is the address you log in with, where password reset links go, and where we send notifications and emails. Until you confirm, you can't log in with your password.
How do I confirm my email address?
- Right after you click Register, the page changes to Check your inbox and says "We sent a confirmation link to (your email). Click it to verify your account, then come back and log in."
- Open that email in your inbox.
- Click the confirmation link.
- The link confirms your address, signs you in and takes you to the site: the page you were on before you signed up, or the Feed.
Although the screen says to come back and log in, clicking the link normally signs you in by itself. If you end up on the Log in page instead, just log in with the email and password you chose.
I signed up with Google. Do I need to confirm?
No. Google has already verified your email, so there's no confirmation link. The first time, you go to the Welcome page to choose a username instead. See Signing in with Google.
What's on the Check your inbox screen?
- The address we sent the link to, so you can spot a typo.
- A tip: "Don't see it within a minute or two? Check your spam folder."
- Go to log in, which opens the Log in page (use it after you've clicked the link, or if the link sent you there).
- Use a different email, which takes you back to the form so you can fix the address and click Register again.
How long does the email take?
Usually a minute or two. If it hasn't come after a few minutes, check your spam, junk, promotions and updates folders, and search your mail for "Underground Aquarium".
Can I get the confirmation email sent again?
There is no "resend" button. What you can do:
- Check spam and other folders first.
- If you typed the address wrong, click Use a different email on the Check your inbox screen and register again with the right one.
- If the address was right and nothing ever arrives, email support@undergroundaquarium.com with the address you used and your username, and we'll sort it out.
I opened the link on a different device. Is that OK?
Yes, your email is usually confirmed anyway, but you might not be signed in automatically on the new device. You may land on the Log in page. Just log in there with your email and password.
What if I click the link twice?
Confirmation links work once. The second click can't sign you in again, so you land on the Log in page. Your email is already confirmed, so just log in with your email and password.
Common problems
I never got the confirmation email. Check spam and other folders, and wait a few minutes. Make sure the address on the Check your inbox screen is right. If it's wrong, click Use a different email. If you've used this address with us before, you may already have an account: no new email is sent in that case, so go to Log in or reset your password.
"Email not confirmed" when I try to log in. You haven't clicked the link yet. Find the email and click it, then log in again.
The link took me to the Log in page with no message. The link couldn't sign you in, usually because it was already used, it had expired, or you opened it in a different browser than the one you signed up in. The page doesn't say why. Try logging in with your email and password. If it says "Email not confirmed", email support@undergroundaquarium.com.
My email program says the link looks suspicious or won't open it. Some work and school mail systems scan or block links. Copy the link into your browser, or sign up again with a personal email address.
I confirmed, but I'm not signed in. Go to Log in and enter your email and password. Your account is ready.
