Marking sold and deleting

When your item is gone, mark the ad as sold so people stop messaging you. If you never want it back, you can delete it. Marking sold can be undone; deleting can't.

How do I mark a listing as sold?

You can do it from two places.

From your listing page

1. Open your ad (tap it in My listings or anywhere on the site).
2. Tap Mark as sold (for Wanted ads, Mark as found).
3. Your browser asks you to confirm: "Mark as sold? It comes off the marketplace, and you can relist it from My Listings." Tap OK.

The page refreshes and shows a banner that the ad is now sold and only you can see it.

From My listings

1. Open My listings.
2. Tap Mark sold (for Wanted ads, Mark found) on the active ad.

There's no confirmation step here: the ad is marked sold straight away.

What happens when I mark something sold?

• The ad comes off area pages, the Every listing page, search and your public profile right away.
• Its status becomes sold in My listings. Wanted ads marked found also show as sold.
• Other people who open its link get a "page not found" page. You can still open it.
• Buyers can no longer start a new conversation about it.
• Conversations that already exist stay in both people's Messages. Under the ad title, the conversation shows the price followed by "· no longer listed". You can both keep messaging.
• Nothing is deleted, and your views are kept.

The site doesn't send any message to people who asked about the ad, so if you promised someone a reply, let them know yourself.

Can I mark an ad as "pending" or "on hold"?

No. The only statuses are active and sold. If a sale is pending, leave the ad active and add "Pending pickup" to the start of the title or description with Edit. Mark it sold once it's done.

I marked it sold by mistake. Can I undo it?

Yes.

1. Open My listings.
2. Tap Repost on the sold ad.

It goes live again right away with a fresh 45 days and moves to the top of Newest first. The link, photos, views and conversations are unchanged. The same Repost button works if the sale falls through days later.

How do I delete a listing?

1. Open My listings.
2. Tap Delete on the ad.
3. Tap Delete for good to confirm, or Cancel to keep it.

Deleting works on any ad, whatever its status. There's no delete button on the listing page itself; it's only in My listings.

What happens when I delete an ad?

• The ad is gone for good. It disappears from My listings, and its link shows "page not found" for everyone, including you.
• It can't be undone or restored. You'd need to post it again from scratch.
• Existing conversations about it stay in Messages. In your inbox and at the top of the conversation, they show "Listing removed" instead of the ad title.

Should I mark sold or delete?

• Mark sold if there's any chance you'll want the ad back, you have more of the same thing coming, or you want to keep the photos and description to repost later.
• Delete if you posted by mistake, posted a duplicate, or never want it again.

Marking sold is usually the better choice. Sold ads are only visible to you, so they don't clutter the classifieds.

Can I delete a whole batch of ads at once?

No. Each ad is deleted one at a time with Delete and Delete for good. If you want to remove all your content, see Deleting your account.

Does anyone see that my item sold?

No. There's no public "sold" badge. A sold ad simply disappears from the classifieds and your profile. Only people already talking to you about it see "no longer listed" in their conversation.

Common problems

I don't see a Mark as sold button on my ad. It only shows on active ads, and only to you while signed in. If the ad is already sold, expired or removed, the button isn't there. Check the status in My listings.

"Couldn't update it. Try again." Marking sold from the listing page didn't save. Reload the page and try again.

"That didn't save. Try again." An action in My listings didn't go through. Reload My listings and try again.

People are still messaging me about a sold item. Check the ad shows sold in My listings. People already in a conversation can keep replying there; let them know it's gone. New buyers can't start a conversation about a sold ad.

I deleted an ad by accident. Deleted ads can't be restored. Post it again from Post it free. Next time, mark it sold instead, which can be undone with Repost.

I can't find Delete on the listing page. Delete is only in My listings. From your listing page, tap Manage this listing to get there.
