Dissolved Oxygen

The amount of oxygen available in the water for fish and bacteria to breathe.

Warm water holds less oxygen than cool water, so surface agitation and good circulation become critical in heated or heavily stocked tanks. Fish gasping at the surface is a classic low-oxygen warning.
