Blocking people

Blocking lets you cut someone off without involving our team. It's private: the person isn't told. You can unblock them any time.

Where can I block someone?

You'll find Block [first name] (with a small "no" symbol) in three places:

You need to be signed in. You can't block yourself, so the link never appears on your own content.

How do I block someone?

1. Click Block [first name] in any of the places above.
2. A box asks "Block [name]?" and explains: "You won't see each other's posts or comments, and they can't message you, comment on your posts or follow you. They won't be told."
3. Click OK to confirm (or Cancel to back out).

The link changes to Unblock [first name]. If you blocked from the feed, their post disappears from your feed right away.

What does blocking do?

Once you block someone, the block works both ways:

• Posts and comments: neither of you sees the other's posts or comments.
• The feed: you won't see each other in the feed.
• Messages: they can't message you, and you can't message them while they're blocked.
• Comments and likes: neither of you can comment on or like the other's posts.
• Following: neither of you can follow the other.

Will they know I blocked them?

No. They get no notification and no email. They simply stop seeing your posts and can't message you, comment on your posts or follow you.

What doesn't blocking do?

Blocking isn't the same as disappearing. Be aware that:

• Your public profile page at /u/your-username can still be opened by anyone with the link, including someone you've blocked, just like anyone else on the internet.
• Public listings, forum threads and store reviews stay public. Anyone can read them, signed in or not.
• Past messages in an existing conversation aren't deleted.
• Blocking doesn't remove content or punish anyone. If someone broke the rules, also report them so our team can act. See Reporting content.

Where can I see who I've blocked?

Go to Account & data and find Blocked accounts. It lists everyone you've blocked with their photo and name (click the name to open their profile). If you haven't blocked anyone, it says "You haven't blocked anyone."

The list is private. Nobody else can see it.

How do I unblock someone?

Any of these works:

• On Account & data, click Unblock next to their name under Blocked accounts. They disappear from the list right away.
• On their public profile, click Unblock [first name] at the bottom.
• In your conversation with them, click Unblock [first name] under the reply box.

Unblocking doesn't ask for confirmation. It isn't announced to them either.

What happens when I unblock someone?

Everything goes back to normal: you can see each other's posts and comments again, and you can message and follow each other. If you were following each other before the block, check the Follow button on their profile in case you need to follow them again.

Should I block or report?

• Block when you personally don't want to interact with someone.
• Report when something breaks the community rules or looks like a scam, so our team can look at it.

For harassment, threats or scams, do both, and email support@undergroundaquarium.com for anything serious.

Blocking a buyer or seller

If a classified deal goes sideways, block the person from your conversation page so they can't keep messaging you. Your ad stays up for everyone else. If they seem to be scamming people, report their profile or listing too. See Blocking and safety in messages and Safe local pickup.

Common problems

I don't see a Block button. You need to be signed in, and you can't block yourself. On feed posts, it's inside the … menu. On profiles, scroll to the very bottom.

An error appears under the Block button. The block didn't save. Refresh the page and try again. If it keeps failing, email support@undergroundaquarium.com.

I blocked someone but they can still see my profile. Public profiles can be opened by anyone with the link. Blocking stops them seeing your posts in the feed, messaging you, commenting and following, but it can't hide a public web page.

My message won't send. If you've blocked the person, or they've blocked you, messages won't go through. Unblock them first if you want to talk.

I can't follow someone. Either you've blocked them or they've blocked you. Check your list under Blocked accounts on Account & data.

I blocked the wrong person. Go to Account & data and click Unblock next to their name.

Someone made a new account to get around my block. Block the new account too, and report it from their profile. Creating extra accounts to get around restrictions is against our Terms of Service.
