Editing and deleting events

If you posted an event, or it belongs to a fish store you manage, you can edit or delete it from its event page with the Edit event button.

Who can edit an event?

• The person who posted it.
• Shop events: the account that manages (has claimed) that fish store listing.
• Society events: Society officers, from the Society events list rather than the event page.

Everyone else sees no Edit event button. If you need a change to an event you didn't post, contact the host or email support@undergroundaquarium.com.

How do I edit my event?

1. Open your event from Events. (For a pending event you'll need its link; see Common problems below.)
2. Click Edit event near the top.
3. Change what you need.
4. Click Save changes. The panel closes and the page updates. Click Cancel or the X to close without saving.

What can I change in the Edit event panel?

The panel is split into sections:

• Event image: upload, replace or remove the cover image. Without one, the page notes "No image yet, so the Underground Aquarium party tank shows instead."
• Basics: Title, Type (Event or Meeting) and Description.
• When: Time zone, Starts and Ends (optional). "Times below are local to the event."
• Where: This is an online event with Event link (optional), or Venue name, Street address, City, State (2 letters, capitalized automatically) and ZIP.
• Details: Capacity (optional) (at least 1, blank for unlimited), Tickets or admission required, and Show on the public events page.

How do I fix my event's time zone?

New events are saved in the time zone of the device you posted from. To correct it:

1. Click Edit event.
2. Under When, choose the Time zone where the event takes place: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Arizona, Pacific, Alaska or Hawaii.
3. Check Starts and Ends. They're shown and saved as local time in the zone you picked, so re-enter them if they changed.
4. Click Save changes.

In-person event pages then show the zone, for example "Central time."

How do I hide my event from the public events page?

Untick Show on the public events page and save. The event disappears from Events, but its own page still works for anyone who has the link. Tick it again to list it.

What does "Tickets or admission required" do?

It marks the event as needing tickets or admission. Put the price and how to get tickets in the description, since links aren't allowed.

What happens when I change the address?

When you change the address, city, state, ZIP, or switch between online and in person, the event's map location is reset and worked out again automatically in the background. Until that happens, the event won't show a distance in Find events near me.

Does editing send my event back for review?

No. Saving changes doesn't change whether the event is published or pending. Edits to a published event show right away. The no-links rule still applies to the title and description.

How do I delete an event?

1. Open the event and click Edit event.
2. Click Delete (bottom right of the panel).
3. Confirm "Delete this event? This can't be undone."

You're taken back to Events. The event page and its RSVPs are removed, and old links to it stop working. There's no undo. The site doesn't notify people who RSVP'd, so tell them another way if you can.

How do I cancel or postpone an event?

There's no "cancelled" status. To postpone, edit the dates and add a note at the top of the description. To cancel, either delete the event or edit the description to say it's cancelled and untick Show on the public events page.

How are Society events edited?

Society events show an Edit event button to officers that opens the Society events list at /c/underground-aquarium-society/events. Officers add, edit and delete Society events there, and can choose whether each one shows on the public Events page or only on the Society list.

Common problems

"Title and start time are required." The title or start time is empty. Fill both in.

"That start time doesn't look right." The start date and time couldn't be read. Pick them again with the date picker.

"The end time has to be after the start." The end is the same as or earlier than the start. Fix the end time, or clear it.

"Links aren't allowed in event descriptions. Put all the details right here on Underground Aquarium." Remove web addresses from the title and description. See Event rules.

"Couldn't save changes. Please try again." The save didn't go through. Try again. If you're editing a shop event, make sure you're signed in to the account that manages the shop.

"Couldn't delete the event." The delete didn't go through. Reload and try again, or email support@undergroundaquarium.com.

I don't see the Edit event button. You're not signed in, or you're signed in to a different account than the one that posted the event or manages the shop.

I need to edit my event while it's pending review. After submitting, you're not given a link to the pending event. Email support@undergroundaquarium.com with the event title and the change you need.
