Event rules

Events on Underground Aquarium are for the aquarium hobby, and all the details live right on the event page. Here's what's allowed and how events are checked.

What kinds of events can I post?

The events page is for aquarium happenings: society and club meetups, fish and frag swaps, auctions, expos and shows, sales, and shop events, in person or online. Every event needs a title and a start date and time. Everything else follows our community rules.

Why can't I put a link in my event?

Underground Aquarium is meant to be the resource, not a signpost to someone else's site. So event titles and descriptions can't contain links. If you try, you'll see:

"Links aren't allowed in event descriptions. Put all the details right here on Underground Aquarium."

Write everything out in the description instead: times, prices, what to bring, how to buy tickets, who to ask. Links that slip past the form are removed automatically.

What counts as a link in an event description?

The form treats these as links:

• Anything starting with http:// or https://.
• Anything starting with www.
• Words that end in a web address ending, such as .com, .org, .net, .io, .co, .us, .info, .biz, .shop, .store, .app, .site, .online, .live, .event, .events, .club, .gg, .ly, .me or .tv (for example "myclub.org" or "tickets.shop/spring").

Mentioning undergroundaquarium.com is fine.

How do I share ticket or meeting details without a link?

• Tickets or admission: write the price and where to buy (for example "Tickets $10 at the door, cash only"). On the edit panel you can also tick Tickets or admission required.
• Online events: tick This is an online event and put the meeting link in the separate Event link (optional) field. It shows on the event page as a join link. That field is the one place a link is allowed.

Are events reviewed before they're public?

• Community events (posted as yourself) are reviewed by our team before they appear on Events. Until then, the event page says "This event is pending review and isn't public yet."
• Shop events posted by the verified manager of a published fish store listing publish right away.
• Society events are posted by Society officers and publish right away.

Why was my event not approved?

The site doesn't send a notice when an event is declined. If your event hasn't appeared, email support@undergroundaquarium.com with the title and date and we'll let you know.

Can I post the same event more than once?

Post each date once. For a repeating meeting, post one event per date rather than several copies of the same one.

What if I see an event that breaks the rules?

Event pages don't have a report button. Email support@undergroundaquarium.com with a link to the event and what's wrong.

Common problems

My description keeps getting the no-links message but I didn't add a link. Look for anything like "name.com," "club.org" or "www." Even a plain club website written without http counts. Spell it differently (for example "our club website") or remove it.

My email address triggers the no-links message. Email addresses ending in .com and similar endings count as links. Leave the email out and describe another way to reach you, such as a phone number or "ask at the door."

Can I link to my Facebook event? No. Copy the details into the description instead.
