Sharing your tank

Every tank you save in the Tank Builder gets its own page. Make it public and it shows on your profile, appears in the feed as "shared a tank", and other keepers can vote on it and comment. You need to be signed in to save and share tanks.

How do I share a tank publicly?

1. Open the Tank Builder while signed in, and build your tank (size and stock) or pick one of your saved tanks under Your tanks.
2. In the save section (3. Save your build, or 3. Your saved tank for one you've saved before), give it a name in the box "Name this tank (e.g. Living room 29)". Names can be up to 80 characters. If you leave it blank, it's named after its size (for example "29-gallon tank") or "My Tank".
3. Tick Show this tank on my profile and in the feed.
4. Tap Save tank (or Update tank). You'll see "Saved."
5. Tap View public page → to open the tank's page. This link appears once the tank is public and has no unsaved changes.

Your tank now shows on the Tanks tab of your public profile, in the Feed as "shared a tank", and on its own page. The first time you share a tank publicly you earn bubbles (see Bubbles).

What's on a tank's page?

• Community tank label, the tank name, and a line of facts: size in gallons, number of species, number of fish and how long it's been running (for example "Running 1 year, 4 months").
• A photo gallery: a big cover photo with thumbnails. Tap to view full screen; swipe on a phone or use arrow keys on a computer.
• The keeper: "Kept by" and their name (or "Your tank" on your own), linking to their profile, with a gold seal for Society members.
• Float up and Sink vote buttons with the tank's score (see Tank likes and comments).
• About this tank: the story, if the owner wrote one.
• What's in it: every species with its scientific name and quantity (for example ×6). Each one links to its species page.
• The setup: when it was set up, its size and the gear list, if filled in.
• Comments, a Plan your own tank link to the Tank Builder and, for visitors, Report this tank.

How do I add photos, a story and gear to my tank page?

On your tank's page, tap Edit showcase (only you see this button). A panel opens with four parts:

• Photos: up to 12 photos (see the next section).
• About this tank: the story behind it, up to 2,000 characters, with a counter. The placeholder suggests "What's the idea behind it? The scape, the stock, what you're proudest of, what went wrong along the way." The first line or two also shows on your tank's tile.
• Set up on: the date you started the tank. It can't be in the future. The page then shows how long it's been running.
• The setup: Filter, Lighting, Substrate, Heater, CO₂, Fertilizer and Water, up to 120 characters each. Examples are shown in each box, like "Fluval 307 canister". Leave anything blank and it won't show.

Tap Save to publish your changes, or Cancel to close without saving.

How do tank photos work?

In Edit showcase, the photo section shows how many you have out of 12, with the note "first one is the cover".

• Tap Add photos to upload one or more. Photos over 15 MB are skipped; others are resized automatically (to at most 2048 pixels on the longest side).
• Use the left and right arrows on a photo (Move earlier, Move later) to reorder.
• Tap the star (Make cover) to move a photo to the front. The first photo has a Cover label and is used on your tank's tile, in the feed and when the page is shared.
• Tap the trash icon (Remove photo) to take one out.

Nothing is final until you tap Save. You can also add photos in the Tank Builder's save section, which has a 10 MB limit per photo; both places share the same 12-photo limit.

What do the photo and save messages mean?

• Up to 12 photos per tank. You've hit the limit. Remove one to add another.
• Photos only, please. A file you picked isn't an image.
• One photo was over 15 MB and was skipped. Pick a smaller version of that photo.
• A photo didn't upload. Try that one again. A connection hiccup. Add it again.
• Couldn't save. Try again. Your changes didn't save. Check your connection and tap Save again.

How do I change the fish in my tank?

Tap Edit stock on your tank's page. It opens the tank in the Tank Builder, where you can add or remove species and change quantities. Tap Update tank there to save. The tank page updates with the new stock.

Who can see my tank?

• Public tanks (with Show this tank on my profile and in the feed ticked) can be seen by anyone, signed in or not, and show on your profile and in the feed.
• Private tanks can only be seen by you. On your own private tank's page you'll see a lock badge saying Only you can see this. Other people can't open it.

On your own profile, your tank tiles are marked Posted or Private. Photos you add to a private tank only become visible to others once you make the tank public.

How do I make a public tank private again?

1. Open it in the Tank Builder (tap Edit stock on its page, or pick it under Your tanks).
2. Untick Show this tank on my profile and in the feed.
3. Tap Update tank.

It disappears from your profile's Tanks tab and other people can no longer open its page. Its votes and comments are kept if you make it public again later.

How do I delete a tank?

In the Tank Builder, tap the X on the tank under Your tanks and confirm "Delete ... ? Its water test history goes with it." The tank, its page and its water test history are removed. This can't be undone. If it fails you'll see "Couldn't delete that tank."

Where do my shared tanks show up?

• The Tanks tab of your public profile, as photo tiles with the name, size, species count and the start of your story. If you haven't shared any, visitors see that you haven't shared any tanks yet.
• The sidebar of your profile's Feed tab on larger screens.
• The Feed, as "shared a tank".
• Its own page, which you can link to from anywhere.

Common problems

I don't see Edit showcase. Only the tank's owner sees it, and only when signed in. Make sure you're signed in to the account that saved the tank.

View public page doesn't appear. It only shows when Show this tank on my profile and in the feed is ticked, the tank has been saved, and there are no unsaved changes. Tap Update tank first.

My tank isn't on my profile. It's private. Tick the public box in the Tank Builder and tap Update tank.

My photos aren't showing to others. The tank is private, or you added photos and closed Edit showcase without tapping Save.

My iPhone photo won't upload. Some browsers can't read iPhone HEIC photos. On your iPhone, Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible saves new photos as JPEG, or share the photo to yourself first so it comes through as a JPEG.

I can't save another tank. You can keep up to 4 saved tanks. Delete or reuse one. See Saving and sharing tanks.
