Clubs

Underground Aquarium used to host a directory of separate local aquarium clubs. That directory has been retired. The site now hosts one national club instead: the Underground Aquarium Society, open to hobbyists in every state, with no chapters.

Where did the clubs directory go?

The multi-club directory is gone. Every old clubs address (the clubs list, "discover," "start" and "new club" pages, and anything else starting with /clubs) now takes you to The Society. Links to other clubs' main pages (addresses like /c/club-name) also go to the Society.

The Society is one membership for the whole country, with a judged Breeder Award Program, a permanent member number and signed certificates. See The Underground Aquarium Society.

Can I start my own club on Underground Aquarium?

No. Creating new clubs is no longer available, and the start-a-club pages send you to The Society. If you run a local club somewhere else, you can still post its meetings and events on Underground Aquarium for free (see below).

Where did club features go?

• Club directory and club pages: replaced by The Society and its membership page.
• Joining a club: you apply to the Society instead. See Joining the Society.
• Club dues: Society dues are the only dues collected on the site. See Society dues and renewal.
• Family memberships: retired. Each person has their own membership.
• Club award programs and breeder points: now the Society's Breeder Award Program. Old Society awards links redirect: the awards standings go to the Leaderboard, the submit form goes to Open a spawn log, and the review page goes to the member area.
• Club events and meetings: local meetings are posted on the site-wide Events page. The Society's own events are listed there too.
• Club invitations: Society officers can still invite people by email. See Joining the Society.

How do I find a local aquarium club or meeting near me?

Use Events and click Find events near me. Hobbyists, clubs and shops post meetings, swaps and auctions there, and the list re-sorts by distance from you. See Finding events.

How do I join a club on Underground Aquarium?

The Society is the club you can join here.

1. Go to The Society and click Apply for membership.
2. Sign in or create a free account.
3. Fill in the application and click Submit application.

Officers review applications. Once you're approved, you pay dues and step into the member area.

How do I post my local club's meeting as an event?

1. Sign in, go to Events and click Submit an event.
2. Enter an Event title like "Monthly Club Meeting."
3. Write the Description in full: who should come, what happens, any cost, what to bring. Links aren't allowed, so write everything out.
4. Set when it Starts (and optionally Ends) and fill in the Venue name, Address, City, State and ZIP.
5. Click Submit event. Our team reviews community events before they go public.

After it's approved, open the event, click Edit event, set Type to Meeting, and check the Time zone. Each meeting is its own event, so post one for each date. See Posting an event.

Where are the Society's own events?

Events the Society hosts appear on Events with "Underground Aquarium Society" as the host. There's also a Society events list at /c/underground-aquarium-society/events. Society officers add and edit those events there. Some Society events can be set to show only on that list instead of the public events page.

What happened to my old club page link?

Old club page links open The Society. If you're a Society member in good standing, Society links take you straight into your member area. If you had a question about a membership you held in a club on the old directory, email support@undergroundaquarium.com.

Common problems

My bookmark to a club page now shows the Society. That's expected. The club directory is retired and all club links point to the Society.

I clicked an old club awards link and ended up on the Leaderboard or Overview. Old award pages redirect to their Society replacements. The review page only opens for Society judges; everyone else lands on Overview.

"Family memberships are no longer offered. Each member has their own membership." Family plans were retired. Apply for your own membership.

I can't find a club in my area. There are no local chapters. Check Events for meetings near you, or ask at a local fish store.
