Favoriting and following stores

Favoriting a shop and following it are the same thing on Underground Aquarium. Tap the heart on a shop's page and you'll hear about it every time the shop posts an update.

How do I follow or favorite a store?

1. Sign in.
2. Open the shop's page.
3. Tap the heart to the right of the shop's name.

The heart fills in and turns coral, and the number beside it goes up by one. That's it: you now follow the shop.

If you tap the heart while signed out, a small note appears under it: "Sign in to favorite".

What does following a store do?

When the shop's owner posts an update (a new shipment, a sale, an event), you get a notification titled "[Shop] posted an update". The notification shows the update's title if it has one, or "Tap to see what's new at the shop." Tapping it opens the shop's page, where the update is under From the shop.

Shops only post updates once someone from the shop has claimed the page. You can follow an unclaimed shop too, but you won't hear anything from it until it's claimed and the owner starts posting.

Following a shop doesn't send you emails. Shop update alerts arrive in your notifications on the site.

How do I unfollow a store?

Open the shop's page and tap the coral heart again. It goes back to an outline and the count drops by one. You won't get that shop's updates anymore. You can follow again any time.

Can I stop shop update notifications without unfollowing?

Yes. On your Notifications page, open Choose what you get notified about and switch off Shop updates ("A shop you follow posts something"). This mutes updates from every shop you follow at once. There's no way to mute just one shop other than unfollowing it. See Notifications.

What does the number next to the heart mean?

It's how many people follow the shop. When nobody follows it yet, only the heart shows, with no number. The shop's owner sees the same follower count in their dashboard.

Can other people see which shops I follow?

The follower number is just a count. Shop pages don't list who follows them, and your follows aren't shown on your public profile.

Where can I see all the shops I follow?

There isn't a page that lists the shops you follow yet. To check a shop, open its page: a filled coral heart means you follow it. Notifications from a shop's updates also link straight to its page.

Does the shop know I followed them?

The owner sees their total follower count and how many new followers they got in the last 7 or 30 days. They don't see a list of names.

Common problems

The heart filled in, then went back to empty. Saving didn't work, so the heart undid itself. Check your connection and tap it again. If you'd been signed out in another tab, sign in and try again.

I follow a shop but never get updates. The shop may not post updates, or it may not be claimed yet. Also check that Shop updates is switched on in Choose what you get notified about on your Notifications page.

I tapped Sign in and didn't come back to the shop. Search for the shop again after signing in, then tap the heart.

I want updates by email. Shop updates are in-app notifications only.
