Writing a store review

Reviews help other hobbyists pick a good shop, and they help good shops get found. Any signed-in member can leave one review per shop, change it later or delete it.

How do I leave a review for a fish store?

  1. Sign in. Signed out, the review area just says "Sign in to leave a review."
  2. Open the shop's page and scroll to Reviews. You can also tap the stars under the shop's name to jump there.
  3. Under Leave a review, tap a star from 1 to 5.
  4. Optionally, write about your visit in the box that says "How was your visit? (optional)".
  5. Tap Post review. It says Posting… while it saves.

Your review appears at the top of the list straight away, and the shop's average and review count update.

What do I need to fill in?

FieldRequired?Notes
Star ratingYes1 to 5 stars. Post review stays grayed out until you pick one.
"How was your visit? (optional)"NoPlain text. Line breaks are kept.

That's all. There's no title, no photos and no separate scores for price or stock.

Can I review a store more than once?

No. It's one review per member per shop. Once you've posted, the form is replaced by "You've reviewed this store. Thanks for sharing!" with an Edit your review link. If you try to post a second one some other way, you'll see "Couldn't post your review. You may have already reviewed this store."

To share a newer visit, edit your existing review instead.

How do I edit my review?

  1. Open the shop's page and find your review in the list.
  2. Tap the pencil icon next to the date, or tap Edit your review under the list.
  3. Change the stars or the text. The text can be up to 2,000 characters when editing.
  4. Tap Save changes (it says Saving…), or Cancel to leave it as it was.

Edited reviews show "· Edited" after the date so readers know it changed. The date itself stays as the day you first posted. If saving fails, you'll see "Couldn't save your changes. Please try again."

How do I delete my review?

Tap the trash can icon next to your review's date, then confirm "Delete your review?". It's removed right away and the average updates. There's no undo, but you can post a fresh review afterward.

Who can see my review, and what name does it show?

Everyone can read reviews, signed in or not. Your review shows the name on your profile (your full name if you've set one, otherwise your username), your stars, the date and your text. If you've deleted your account, your reviews stay up but show "Aquarist" instead of your name. See Editing your profile to change how your name appears.

Does the store owner get notified about my review?

Yes, if the shop is claimed. The owner gets an in-app notification and an email saying they have a new review, with your star rating, your name and the start of what you wrote, plus a button to reply. Owners can turn these alerts off. Unclaimed shops have nobody to notify.

Can the owner reply to my review?

Yes. The person who manages the shop can post one reply per review. It appears under your review in a green box labeled Owner's response. The owner can edit or delete their reply at any time.

When they reply, you get a notification titled "[Shop] responded" that says "The shop replied to your review. Tap to see what they said." Tapping it opens the shop's page. You can turn these off under Review replies in your notification settings.

You can't reply back to the owner's response in the review. If you want to talk it through, contact the shop directly.

Can a store owner delete or change my review?

No. Owners can reply, but they can't edit, hide or remove your review. Only you can change or delete it.

Why can't I review a shop?

  • You're signed out. The form only appears when you're signed in.
  • You manage the shop. Owners see "You manage this store, so you can't review it yourself, but you can respond to reviews above."
  • You already reviewed it. Edit your existing review instead.

What makes a good review?

  • Say when you visited and what you went in for.
  • Be specific: the health of the livestock, how the tanks looked, how staff treated you, prices on things you bought.
  • Keep it to your own experience, and keep it civil. Reviews follow the community rules.
  • Stock changes weekly, so for "they had X in today" posts, use Spotted in stock instead. See Suggesting store fixes and sightings.

How is the star rating calculated?

The rating is the plain average of every review's stars, shown to one decimal place (for example 4.3). Every review counts the same, whenever it was posted. The stars on the page fill in proportion, so 4.3 shows four full stars and a sliver of the fifth.

Common problems

"Couldn't post your review. You may have already reviewed this store." You've already reviewed this shop. Scroll the list for your review and use the pencil icon to edit it. If you can't find it, refresh the page.

Post review is grayed out. Pick a star rating first. Text is optional but stars aren't.

I tapped Sign in and ended up on the feed. Search for the shop again after signing in. You'll be signed in when you get back to its page.

I see a review that's fake, abusive or not about this shop. There's no report button on store reviews yet. Email support@undergroundaquarium.com with the shop's name and the reviewer's name, and our team will take a look.

My edit didn't save. You'll see "Couldn't save your changes. Please try again." Check your connection and tap Save changes again.

I own the shop and want to respond. See Replying to reviews.
