Adding photos of your shop

Photos show customers what to expect before they drive over: your storefront, your tanks, your best livestock. You add them from the Photos tab of your shop dashboard. Only the shop's owner can add photos.

How do I add photos to my shop page?

1. Open My shops, tap your shop, then open Photos.
2. Tap Add photos.
3. Pick one or more images from your phone or computer. You can select several at once.

A spinner shows while they upload. Each photo appears in the grid as soon as it's done.

How many photos can I add?

Up to 8 in total. If you pick more than you have room for, only the first ones that fit are added. Once you have 8, the Add photos button disappears. Remove one to make room.

What kind of photos work?

Any normal image from a phone or camera, including iPhone photos (HEIC). Before uploading, we convert each photo to a JPEG, fix sideways rotation and shrink it so its longest side is at most 2,000 pixels. Small web-ready images are kept as they are. You don't need to resize anything first.

Good shots to add:

• The storefront, so people recognize it from the street
• Wide shots of your tank walls or coral frag tanks
• Close-ups of livestock you're known for
• The inside of the shop, so first-timers know what they're walking into

Photos display as squares in the grid, so keep the subject near the middle.

How do I remove a photo?

On the Photos tab, tap the X in the corner of the photo. It's removed right away, with no confirmation and no undo. Re-upload it if you removed the wrong one.

Where do my photos appear?

In the Photos section of your public page, below Spotted in stock. They show in a grid, and tapping one opens it full size in a new tab. If you have no photos, the section doesn't appear on your page at all.

Can I add captions or change the order?

No. Photos show in the order you added them, and there's no caption field. To change the order, remove photos and add them back in the order you want.

Do photos help my shop get found?

Photos make your page more useful to customers, and "Add a few photos of your tanks and storefront" appears in Needs your attention on your Overview until you add one. Your weekly report also nudges you if you have none.

Are shop photos the same as photos on updates?

No. Shop photos are the permanent gallery on your page. Photos you attach to an update (up to 4 per update) belong to that update and show under From the shop. See Posting shop updates.

Can customers add photos to my page?

No. Only the shop's owner can add photos to the gallery. Customers can post text sightings in Spotted in stock and leave reviews.

Common problems

The Add photos button is missing. You already have 8 photos. Remove one first.

A photo failed to upload. An error message appears under the button. Try again on a stronger connection, or try a different photo. If a particular photo never works, take a screenshot of it and upload the screenshot.

My photo is sideways. We correct rotation automatically in most cases. If one still looks wrong, rotate it in your phone's photo app, save it, and upload it again.

I removed a photo by mistake. There's no undo. Upload it again from your device.

My photos don't show on my public page. Refresh the page. If the grid is still missing, check the Photos tab to make sure they finished uploading.
