Posting shop updates

Updates are your shop's news: a new shipment, a sale, an event, a weekend swap. Everyone who follows your shop gets a notification when you post one. Only the shop's owner can post updates.

How do I post a shop update?

You can post from your dashboard or your public page:

1. Open Updates in your shop dashboard, or scroll to From the shop on your public page.
2. Tap Post an update. A New update box opens.
3. Add a title if you like, in Title (optional), for example "Weekend restock".
4. Write what's new in the box that says "What's new? New shipment, sale, event…".
5. Tap Add photos to attach pictures, if you want.
6. Tap Post update. It says Posting… while it saves.

The update appears at the top of your list straight away. To close the box without posting, tap the X.

What can an update include?

Post update stays grayed out until you've written something or added a photo, and while photos are still uploading.

How do photos on updates work?

Tap Add photos and pick one or more images. The button says Uploading… while they go up, and each one appears as a small preview. Large photos are shrunk to at most 1,920 pixels on the longest side before uploading.

• To remove a photo before posting, tap the X on its preview.
• After 4 photos, the button changes to "Photo limit reached".
• Messages you might see: "Up to 4 photos per update.", "Images only, please.", "That photo is too large (max 10 MB)." or "A photo failed to upload, try again."

On your page, a single photo shows full width. Two or more show in a two-column grid.

Who gets notified when I post?

Everyone who follows (has favorited) your shop gets an in-app notification titled "[Shop] posted an update". If your update has a title, that's the notification text. If not, it says "Tap to see what's new at the shop." Tapping it opens your shop's page.

Followers get the notification once, when you first post. Editing an update later doesn't notify anyone again. Followers who've switched off Shop updates in their notification settings won't get it. These are in-app notifications, not emails.

Where do my updates appear?

• Your public page, under From the shop, newest first, with the date.
• Your dashboard, on the Updates tab, with the note "Restocks, sales and events. Everyone following your shop gets a notification, and it shows on the main store page too."
• The directory. The 3 most recent updates from any shop show under Latest shop updates on Fish stores, with your shop name, title, the start of your text and the date. Tapping one opens your page.

How do I edit an update?

1. Find the update on your Updates tab or your public page.
2. Tap the pencil icon.
3. Change the title or text.
4. Tap Save (it says Saving…), or Cancel.

You can't add or remove photos when editing. To change the photos, delete the update and post a new one. The text can't be left empty when editing, so a photo-only update needs some words added before you can save changes to it.

How do I delete an update?

Tap the trash can icon on the update. It's deleted right away, with no confirmation and no undo. Followers who already got the notification will land on your page without it.

How often should I post?

Regular posts keep followers coming back. If you haven't posted in more than 14 days, your Overview shows "Your last update was [N] days ago. Post what just came in", and your weekly report suggests posting too. The Overview's Updates card shows how many you've posted and when the last one was.

When you haven't posted anything yet, your dashboard says "No updates yet, post a restock or event to keep customers in the loop."

What should I post?

• New shipments, with photos of the best livestock
• Sales and clearance
• Events, swaps and club nights at the shop
• Changes like new hours or a move (update Hours & details too)

Keep it to real news. Updates follow the community rules.

Common problems

"Couldn't post that update. Please try again." The update didn't save. Check your connection and tap Post update again. Your text and photos stay in the box.

Post update is grayed out. Write some text or add a photo, and wait for any photos to finish uploading.

I can't find the Post an update button on my page. You need to be signed in with the account that manages the shop. Or use the Updates tab in your dashboard.

My followers didn't get a notification. They only get one when you first post, and only if they haven't muted Shop updates. If your shop has no followers yet, nobody is notified.

I need to fix a photo on an update. Delete the update and post it again with the right photos.

The Save button is grayed out when editing. The text can't be empty. Add at least a few words.
