UNDERGROUNDAQUARIUM

For store owners

Claiming your store

If you own or manage an independent fish store, you can claim its page and run it yourself. Claiming is free, and it stays free. Our team checks every claim by hand before you get access.

How do I claim my store?

  1. Find your shop on Fish stores and open its page.
  2. In the contact column (near the top on a phone, on the right on a computer), find Own this store? ("Claim [shop] to manage its page.") and tap Claim it.
  3. Sign in or create a free account if asked. Signed out, you'll see "Sign in to claim this store."
  4. Fill in the claim form (see below).
  5. Tap Submit claim. It says Submitting… while it sends.

You'll see "Claim submitted" and "We'll verify your details and mark you as the owner of [shop]."

What goes in the claim form?

The form is titled Claim [shop], with the note "Tell us how we can verify you run this shop and we'll review it."

FieldRequired?What to enter
Contact email (ideally on the store's domain)No, but it helpsAn email we can reach you at. An address on your shop's own website domain (rather than a free webmail address) is the quickest to verify.
How can we verify you?YesAnything that proves you run the shop: a business email on the store's website, the shop phone number, or a link to your site or social page where we can confirm.

Submit claim stays grayed out until the verification box has something in it. Cancel closes the form.

We email shops at the address they publish on their own website. Those emails include a personal claim link that opens a Claim your shop page for your store. Because the email went to your shop's own published address, there's nothing to prove:

  1. Open the link. If you're signed out, tap Create an account or I already have one and sign in. The link keeps working, so you land right back on the same page.
  2. Once signed in, the page says "One press and it's yours." and shows the account you're signed in as.
  3. Tap Yes, I own or manage [shop].

You'll see "That's it, [shop] is yours." Your claim is still checked by hand, usually the same day, before the dashboard opens up.

The page may also list what you can fix once approved, such as "Your hours aren't listed" or "There's nothing written about the shop". See the page first opens your public page.

You'll see this if the claim link is incomplete or was changed (for example, cut off when it was copied). No harm done: tap Go to [shop], which opens your shop's page with the claim form already open, and claim it there.

How long does verification take?

Our team reviews claims by hand, usually the same day. We may contact you at the email you gave if we need more to go on. Once approved, the shop appears under My shops and its page shows Owner managed with a green check.

How will I know my claim was approved?

Check My shops. When your shop appears there, you're in. Your shop's public page will also show a You manage this shop box with Open your shop dashboard. If a day or two has passed and nothing has changed, email support@undergroundaquarium.com with your shop's name and the email on your account.

What can I do once my claim is approved?

From your shop dashboard you can:

  • Edit your address, phone, website, hours, description and what you carry
  • Add holiday and special hours
  • Add up to 8 photos
  • Post updates (restocks, sales, events) that go out to everyone following your shop
  • Reply to reviews
  • See how many people view your page, ask for directions, call and visit your website
  • Download free posters with your own QR code, a website badge and share text

You'll also get alerts about new reviews, shopper reports and milestones, plus a weekly report. See Shop notifications and emails.

Does claiming cost anything?

No. Claiming and managing your page is free, and so are the posters, badge and insights. We don't sell anything to shops or take a cut.

My shop isn't in the directory. Can I still claim it?

Not yet. Suggest it first from the bottom of Fish stores, and put your contact details in Anything else?. Once it's live, claim it from its page. See Suggesting a missing store.

Can more than one person manage a shop?

No. Each shop page is managed by one account. If several people at the shop need to post, they'd have to share that account. To hand the page over to someone else, email support@undergroundaquarium.com.

What if my shop is already claimed?

The page will say "This store is managed by its owner." instead of showing Claim it. If you open an emailed claim link, it says "[shop] is already claimed". If that wasn't you or anyone at your shop, email support@undergroundaquarium.com and we'll sort it out.

Common problems

"Couldn't submit your claim. You may have already requested this store." You've already sent a claim for this shop, and it's waiting to be reviewed. There's no need to send another. If it's been more than a couple of days, email support@undergroundaquarium.com.

"You've already asked to claim this shop. I'll get to it shortly." Same thing, from the emailed link page. Your claim is in the queue.

"Your session expired. Sign in again and the link will still work." Sign in again, reopen the claim link from your email, and tap the button again.

"Something went wrong. Reply to the email and I'll sort it out by hand." Reply to the email that had your link, or email support@undergroundaquarium.com.

I tapped Sign in on the shop page and ended up on the feed. Go back to your shop's page after signing in and tap Claim it again.

My claim was approved but I can't see the dashboard. Make sure you're signed in with the same account you claimed with. Then open My shops.

I don't want to claim it, I just want the emails to stop. See Stopping shop emails.
